Best Things to do in New York in June 2026
June is one of the busiest months to visit New York and there is genuinely so much happening across the city this year. Between the build-up to the 4th July celebrations, FIFA World Cup fan events taking over parts of Manhattan and Brooklyn, rooftop movie nights returning for summer and the New York Knicks making the finals, the city feels very different compared to other times of year. I’m sure by the time you’re reading this you’ll already know whether the Knicks pulled it off or not, but either way the atmosphere across New York in June is going to be huge.
I actually visited New York in June last year and I didn’t realise just how many seasonal events, pop-ups and free activities happen during this time. It ended up being one of my favourite times I’ve ever visited New York because the city feels so much more social in summer. Parks are full, rooftops are busy, there are outdoor events almost every night and you can easily build an itinerary that mixes tourist attractions with things that feel far more local.
So if you’re planning a girls trip, summer trip or even a long weekend in New York this June, I’ve put together a full guide to the best things happening across the city.

Best Paid Things to do in New York in June
Sky-High Yoga at Edge NYC

If you’re looking for unique things to do in New York in June, this is probably one of the coolest summer experiences happening in the city this year. Edge is bringing back its Sky-High Yoga classes where you can take part in a sunrise yoga session more than 1,100 feet above Manhattan. The classes are taught by Equinox instructors and happen before the observation deck opens to the public, which means you get the skyline almost completely to yourself while the sun comes up over the city.
Your ticket also includes entry to Edge afterwards which means you can stay after the class and spend time taking photos once the crowds arrive later in the morning. The classes run several times a week throughout summer and they usually sell out quickly because spaces are limited. You also don’t need to bring any equipment because yoga mats are provided and the classes are suitable for different levels. If you want something different from the standard tourist attractions in New York this is definitely worth adding to your June itinerary.
Price: from $75
Location: Edge NYC, Hudson Yards
Dates: 15th June – 2nd October 2026
Time: doors open 6am, class starts 6.30am
Central Park Row Boats

One of the most classic summer activities in New York is renting a row boat in Central Park, and I completely understand why people love it so much once I finally did it myself. The boats launch from the Central Park Boathouse and once you’re out on the lake the city suddenly feels way quieter than you would expect. You get views of Bow Bridge, Belvedere Castle and parts of Central Park that you completely miss if you’re just walking through the park normally.
The boats are first come first served so I would definitely recommend going earlier in the day especially during weekends in June because queues get long very quickly. The rowing itself is definitely more tiring than it looks though and by the end of it my arms were struggling. You can rent the boats by the hour, which is probably enough unless you’re planning on stopping loads for photos. If you’re visiting New York for the first time this is one of those activities that actually lives up to expectations, and it’s also surprisingly affordable compared to most attractions in Manhattan.
Price: $25–$30 per hour
Location: Central Park Boathouse, near 72nd Street & 5th Avenue
Dates: daily throughout June 2026
Time: 10am – 7pm

New York Yankees Games

Watching a Yankees game in New York during summer is something I think everyone should do at least once even if you don’t really follow baseball. The atmosphere around Yankee Stadium before games in June is huge because everyone is outside eating, drinking and hanging around the bars near the stadium before heading inside. I actually think baseball is one of the easiest sports to watch as a tourist because the games feel really social and relaxed compared to basketball or football.
You’ll see people constantly ordering food, chatting throughout the game and walking around the stadium instead of sitting still the entire time. The Yankees also have several home games throughout June against teams including the Red Sox and Blue Jays which are usually some of the busiest fixtures. Even if you only know the basics of baseball, it’s still fun purely for the atmosphere and the experience of being inside one of the most famous sports stadiums in the world. I would definitely recommend getting food inside the stadium as well because trying classic ballpark food is all part of the whole experience.
Price: tickets from around $25+
Location: Yankee Stadium, Bronx
Dates: multiple home games throughout June 2026
Best Pop-Ups & Festivals in New York this June
Sephora Summer Club at The William Vale

One of the biggest brand activations happening in New York this summer is the first-ever Sephora Summer Club at The William Vale in Williamsburg. This is basically a luxury poolside beauty experience running throughout summer, and it feels far more like a lifestyle club than a normal hotel activation. The entire pool area has been transformed with Sephora branding, SPF stations, beauty experiences and curated summer programming.
Guests can access complimentary sunscreen stations throughout the day, and there is also a Sephora Beauty Library where you can borrow beauty tools and products directly from the hotel. They are also hosting dive-in movie nights, beauty experiences, food and drink collaborations and seasonal cocktails including the Sephora Spritz. If you are staying in Williamsburg this is definitely worth adding to your itinerary, especially if you want a pool day during your trip. Day passes are also available through ResortPass for locals and visitors who are not staying at the hotel.
Price: day passes start from around $85
Location: The William Vale, Williamsburg Brooklyn
Dates: 22nd May – 7th September 2026
The Library After Hours: Queer Magic
The New York Public Library is hosting a special edition of The Library After Hours in June called Queer Magic. It takes place inside the Stephen A. Schwarzman Building which already feels incredible to visit even during the daytime, but the atmosphere completely changes at night once the event starts. This special edition focuses on LGBTQ+ history, queer storytelling and magical themes pulled from the library’s collections. There will be curated displays, music from DJ Eugene Tambourine, games, puzzles, arts activities and drinks available to purchase throughout the evening.
The tickets are pay-what-you-wish which makes it very accessible compared to other NYC nightlife events. If you are visiting New York during Pride Month, this would actually fit really well into your itinerary because it combines nightlife, culture and LGBTQ+ programming all together in one place. It’s only happening for one night though so tickets will probably go quickly.
Price: pay what you wish, suggested $15
Location: Stephen A. Schwarzman Building, Fifth Avenue & 42nd Street
Date: 5th June 2026
Time: 7.30pm – 10.30pm
FIFA World Cup Fan Zone at Brooklyn Bridge Park

With the FIFA World Cup happening this summer, New York is turning Brooklyn Bridge Park into one huge fan zone running from June into July, and this looks like it’s going to be one of the busiest places in the city all summer. The event includes giant match screenings, live DJs, concerts, football tournaments, food stands and outdoor seating areas directly beside the waterfront. The location alone makes this worth visiting because you’ve got the Manhattan skyline right behind you while watching the games.
Even if you don’t care about football I still think this would be such a fun atmosphere to experience because everyone will be outside all day and night during the tournament. The fan zone is open daily and there will also be live music performances and activities happening between matches throughout the day. If you’re visiting New York during the World Cup definitely expect this area to be extremely busy especially during major matches.
Price: free
Location: Brooklyn Bridge Park
Dates: 13th June – 19th July 2026
Time: 12pm – 10pm daily
NYC Pride March

NYC Pride is one of the biggest events happening in New York every June and the Pride March completely takes over parts of Manhattan by the end of the month. The parade route runs through Fifth Avenue towards Greenwich Village and brings huge crowds, floats, performers, DJs and celebrations across the entire area. Even if you’ve never been to Pride in New York before, you’ve probably already seen videos online because the scale of it is massive.
Hotels and restaurants across Manhattan usually get booked out far in advance around Pride weekend because so many people travel into the city specifically for the celebration. Throughout the weekend there are also rooftop parties, concerts and events happening all across Manhattan and Brooklyn alongside the main parade itself. The atmosphere across the city during Pride weekend is huge and there’s so much happening everywhere you go. Even walking through Manhattan that weekend feels completely different compared to a normal summer weekend in New York.

Location: Fifth Avenue through Greenwich Village
Date: 28th June 2026
STORYfest with Reese’s Book Club
Hudson Yards is hosting STORYfest with Reese’s Book Club this June which is a one night literary event bringing together readers, authors and book lovers for a special evening programme. The event includes author conversations, community events and themed experiences inspired by Reese’s Book Club. If you enjoy reading or publishing culture, then this would actually be such a fun thing to add into your itinerary. The event runs in the evening and reservations are expected to open closer to the date. It is definitely worth keeping an eye on because these types of limited NYC events often book out quickly once reservations open.
Price: free with RSVP
Location: Hudson Yards
Date: 16th June 2026
Time: 5.30pm – 8.30pm
Best Free Things to do in New York this June
Central Park Movie Nights at Wollman Rink

Outdoor movie nights in New York during summer always look amazing online but the Wollman Rink screenings in Central Park actually look even better in person because of the setting. The screenings happen outdoors with huge inflatable screens and people bring blankets, snacks and drinks to watch films surrounded by the skyline and Central Park. The June screenings include Hamilton and Wicked: For Good which will probably end up being some of the busiest nights of the season.
The lawn opens several hours before the films start so I would definitely recommend arriving early if you want a decent viewing spot. June weather is usually perfect for outdoor movie nights in New York because evenings stay warm without feeling unbearably hot yet. Watching movies outside in Central Park during summer really does feels like one of those classic New York experiences people imagine before visiting the city.
Price: free
Location: Wollman Rink, Central Park
Dates: 21st May – 2nd July 2026
Time: lawn opens 5pm, films start 8pm
Intrepid Museum Movie Nights

The Intrepid Museum also hosts outdoor movie screenings throughout summer and this is one of the more unique places to watch a film in New York. The screenings take place beside the aircraft carrier on the Hudson River, which gives the entire event a completely different atmosphere compared to the Central Park screenings. Films this year include Top Gun and Independence Day which fit the location perfectly. Seating is first come first served so arriving early definitely makes a huge difference, especially for the more popular screenings. If you’re building a New York summer itinerary this is definitely one of the best free evening activities happening in the city.
Price: free
Location: Intrepid Museum, Pier 86
Dates: 22nd May – 28th August 2026
Time: doors open 6pm, film starts 7pm
Free Public Tours of the David N. Dinkins Municipal Building
One of the newest free attractions in New York launching this June is the public rooftop tours at the David N. Dinkins Municipal Building, and I think this could become one of the hardest free tickets to get in the city. The tours give visitors access to the building’s rooftop and cupola, with panoramic views across Lower Manhattan, the Brooklyn Bridge and Downtown New York. Group sizes are capped at just six people which means the experience will feel much quieter and less crowded than places like Summit or Edge.
The tours need to be booked in advance through the DCAS online portal and I would expect reservations to disappear almost instantly once dates are released. If you’re visiting New York in June and want skyline views without paying over $40 for an observation deck, this is definitely worth trying to book. The location is also perfect because afterwards you can easily walk to the Brooklyn Bridge, Chinatown or Tribeca. I already know this is going to end up all over TikTok once the tours officially launch.
Price: free
Location: 1 Centre Street, Lower Manhattan
Dates: launching June 2026
Free Kayaking at Brooklyn Bridge Park

Free kayaking at Brooklyn Bridge Park is one of the best free things you can do in New York during summer and most tourists still do not realise it exists. The kayaking sessions happen several times a week and allow visitors to paddle around a protected part of the East River, with views across the Manhattan skyline and Brooklyn Bridge. All equipment is included including the kayak, paddle and life jacket which makes it incredibly accessible even if you have never kayaked before.
Sessions only last around 20 minutes but that is more than enough time once you are actually out on the water. The skyline views from the river are incredible and it gives you a completely different perspective of Manhattan compared to being on land. Reservations open exactly 2 weeks in advance and they do disappear quickly, so I would set reminders if this is something you want to do.

Location: Brooklyn Bridge Park
Dates: 27th May – 26th September 2026
CityPickle at Hudson Yards

CityPickle is bringing free pickleball courts to Hudson Yards all summer and it has already become one of the busiest outdoor activities in the area. The courts are located directly beside The Vessel and are free to use with advance reservations opening one week beforehand. Pickleball has become huge recently and this is such a fun way to spend an afternoon if you want something more active during your trip. The courts are designed for all skill levels so you definitely don’t need to be good at the sport to join in. Reservations are recommended as court slots can fill quickly during weekends.
Price: free
Location: Hudson Yards, beside The Vessel
Dates: 1st June – 30th August 2026
Time: 12pm – 7pm daily
Museum Mile Festival

The Museum Mile Festival is one of the best free events happening in New York in June, especially if you were already planning on visiting museums during your trip. For one evening, several museums along Fifth Avenue open completely free including The Met, Guggenheim and Cooper Hewitt. The entire stretch of Fifth Avenue between 82nd Street and 110th Street closes to traffic, and there are performances, street entertainment and food stalls outside while people move between the museums throughout the evening. If you’ve looked at museum ticket prices in New York recently you’ll already know this can save you a huge amount of money, especially if you want to visit several museums in one trip.
Price: free
Location: Fifth Avenue between 82nd Street & 110th Street
Date: 9th June 2026
Time: starts 6pm
Bryant Park Picnic Performances

Throughout summer, Bryant Park transforms into an outdoor performance space right in the middle of Midtown Manhattan with free live music, theatre, dance, opera and orchestral performances taking place several nights a week. The programme changes constantly throughout the season which means there is usually something different happening every week in July. One evening could be live jazz, or a full orchestra performance and another could be contemporary dance, or an outdoor theatre production. You also don’t need tickets either which makes it one of the easiest free summer activities in Manhattan.
Price: free
Location: Bryant Park, Midtown Manhattan
Dates: 28th May – 11th September 2026
Thank you so much for reading and I hope this guide on the best things to do in New York in June has given you plenty of inspiration for your own trip.
