NYC Off-Broadway Week (2 for 1 tickets)
IHOP Free Pancakes for National Pancake Day
If you’re in NYC on Tuesday March 3, this is the kind of deal that’s worth building a morning around. IHOP is doing free short stacks for National Pancake Day and it’s one of those rare “free” things that is actually free. You just walk in and get a short stack of their buttermilk pancakes during the set hours. If you want to do it properly, go earlier in the day because it can get busy and it’s the kind of thing everyone suddenly remembers at 6pm.
Price: Free short stack (dine-in offer during promo hours)
Location: Participating IHOP locations across NYC (check your nearest IHOP)
Cherry Blossom Season
If you’re visiting New York in March, you might just catch the start of cherry blossom season depending on the weather. It’s not full bloom vibes yet but late March is usually when the earliest blossoms start making an appearance and it’s such a nice reminder that winter is finally ending. The easiest way to do this without overplanning is to keep one day flexible and check what’s blooming when you’re there.
The classic places to look are Central Park, Brooklyn Botanic Garden and New York Botanical Garden. Even if you don’t hit peak bloom, these spots are still worth it for a spring walk and a cute photo moment that doesn’t involve Times Square.
Price: Free to see in parks, gardens may charge entry
Location:: Central Park, Brooklyn Botanic Garden, New York Botanical Garden
St Patrick’s Day Parade
The NYC St Patrick’s Day Parade is back on Tuesday March 17th 2026 and it starts at 11:00am. Fifth Avenue gets packed and the atmosphere is chaotic so if you want a good view, you need to get there early and commit to your spot.
If you’re planning to see it my biggest tip is to treat it like an event not a quick pop by. Make sure you wear comfy shoes because you’ll end up standing for ages and do not underestimate how busy Midtown gets that day.
Price: Free
Location: Fifth Avenue, Manhattan (parade starts at 11:00am)
Holi Celebration at The Seaport
If you’re in New York in early March and want something that actually feels seasonal, the annual Holi celebration at The Seaport is one to add to your plans. In partnership with The Culture Tree and South Street Seaport Museum, this event celebrates the traditional Indian festival of colours and marks the arrival of spring in the most joyful way.
You can expect everything from interactive dance performances and workshops, a puppet show, live music and of course plenty of colour throwing throughout the afternoon. You can also sample Indian dishes typically enjoyed during Holi, buy the signature coloured powders and browse an outdoor Indian market at Seaport Square featuring nearly a dozen Indian-owned businesses. The event takes place between Pier 16 and Pier 17 at Seaport Square, with additional programming connected to the Tall Ship Wavertree at 89 South Street.
Date: Saturday 7th March
Price: Free
Location: Seaport Square (between Pier 16 and Pier 17), 89 South St, New York, NY 10038
New Museum Reopens with Free Opening Weekend
One of the biggest art openings in New York this spring is happening on 21st March 2026, when the expanded New Museum officially opens its doors. The Bowery museum has added a 60,000 square foot expansion designed by OMA’s Shohei Shigematsu and Rem Koolhaas in collaboration with Cooper Robertson. The new building sits alongside the existing SANAA designed structure and doubles the museum’s gallery space. There’s now a larger Sky Room, a new 74 seat forum for talks and screenings and a street level entrance plaza.
For opening weekend, 21st–22nd March 2026, it’s completely free however you will need to reserve a ticket in advance and these are expected to go quickly. After opening weekend general admission will be $25 for adults, with discounted tickets available and free entry for visitors under 18 and SNAP/EBT recipients. The museum will be open Tuesday through Sunday, with pay-what-you-wish hours on Thursday evenings.

Inspired by MetroCard Exhibit
A new exhibition called “Inspired by MetroCard” opens March 16th inside Grand Central at the New York Transit Museum’s Grand Central Gallery & Store. It’s basically a love letter to the MetroCard era and shows how artists have turned MetroCards into actual art pieces, fashion and design objects.
This is the kind of thing that’s perfect if you’re doing Midtown and want something quick to slot into your day between sightseeing and food. It also feels like a really fun rainy day plan when you don’t want to spend money but still want to do something interesting.
Price: Free
Location: Grand Central Gallery & Store, Grand Central Terminal
iCandy Experience NYC
iCandy Experience NYC is basically an immersive candy experience that turns NYC landmarks into themed rooms with photo moments, interactive bits and candy you can collect as you go. You go, take cute pics, feel like a child again and leave with sugar. It’s also a good option if you’re visiting New York in March and the weather is cold so being indoors feels like the right choice.
Price: From $40
Location: One Times Square, 1475 Broadway, New York, NY 10036
Governors Island Ice Sculpture Show
This is such a fun free event if you want something different from the usual Manhattan plans. The Governors Island Ice Sculpture Show is happening on March 8th 2026 and it’s a live ice carving event where you can literally watch the sculptures being made in real time. It’s outdoors so dress properly especially if the weather is really cold. And because it’s on Governors Island, it also turns into a cute mini day trip so you can wander around and grab something warm to drink then head back.
Price: Free
Location: Governors Island (event hosted by Governors Island Arts)
Lush Spa on Lexington Ave
If you need a break from the constant walking and the chaos of Midtown, the Lush Spa on Lexington Ave is such a fun little reset. One treatment that’s really worth knowing about is their Wicked-themed “Book A Bath” experience. It’s a 30 minute, self-led bathing session where they lean fully into the Wicked vibe with exclusive products from the Wicked x Lush collection plus music from the Wicked soundtrack playing while you soak.
Price: Book A Bath from $75
