Best Things to Do in New York in November 2026 – Events & Christmas Pop-Ups
November is a great time to visit New York if you want to see the city as it starts getting ready for Christmas. The first few weeks still have autumn events and outdoor activities, but by the middle of the month, festive lights, Christmas shows and holiday pop-ups are starting to appear around the city. Thanksgiving is also a big date in the New York calendar, with the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade bringing huge crowds to Manhattan on 26th November 2026.
If you’re planning a trip, I’d recommend checking what’s happening during your specific dates before booking anything. Some experiences only run for a few weeks and popular activities like the Christmas Spectacular and ice skating can get expensive if you leave booking until the last minute. There are also plenty of free things to do, from watching the Christmas tree arrive at Rockefeller Center to seeing the Thanksgiving parade and visiting museums on their free admission days.
I’ve split this guide into paid activities, festive pop-ups and free things to do, so you can work out what’s worth spending money on and what you can enjoy without paying for a ticket.

Best Paid Things to Do in New York in November
Radio City Christmas Spectacular

If you’re visiting New York in November and want to see a Christmas show, I’d put the Christmas Spectacular Starring the Radio City Rockettes on your list. The show returns to Radio City Music Hall on 4th November 2026 and runs until 4th January 2027, so you have plenty of opportunities to fit it into your trip. The Rockettes are known for their high-kicking dance routines, matching costumes and large-scale choreography, with the show combining Christmas music, festive scenes and traditional numbers that have become part of the experience. It runs for around 90 minutes without an intermission, which makes it fairly easy to fit around other plans in Midtown.
Price: Tickets from $55, with prices varying by performance and seat
Location: Radio City Music Hall, 1260 Avenue of the Americas, Midtown Manhattan
Dates: 4th November 2026 – 4th January 2027
Skate at Domino Park

If you’ve already seen the famous Manhattan ice rinks on social media, Skate at Domino Park is another option to consider for your November trip. The rink is set along the Williamsburg waterfront in Brooklyn, with views across the East River towards the Manhattan skyline. The 2026–2027 season is scheduled to open on 9th November 2026 and run into February, making it an option if you’re visiting before December. The rink is around 7,000 square feet, so there’s room to skate while taking in the waterfront setting. I’d consider this one if you’re planning to explore Williamsburg anyway, rather than travelling across the city just to skate.
Price: Skate rentals start from $13; check ticket prices when booking
Location: Domino Square at Domino Park, Williamsburg, Brooklyn
Dates: 9th November 2026 – 21st February 2027

Ice Skating at Brooklyn Bridge Park

If you’re looking for somewhere to go ice skating with a view, Roebling Rink at Brooklyn Bridge Park is worth adding to your November itinerary. The seasonal pop-up rink sits beneath the Brooklyn Bridge, with views across the East River towards the Manhattan skyline. Roebling Rink is scheduled to return on 14th November 2026 and stay open daily until 31st January 2027. It’s a great option if you want to combine ice skating with a visit to Brooklyn Bridge Park and the nearby DUMBO neighbourhood.
Price: $16 per person for a 60-minute session
Location: Roebling Rink, Brooklyn Bridge Park, Brooklyn
Dates: 14th November 2026 – 31st January 2027

Wollman Rink in Central Park

Wollman Rink is one of the best-known places to go ice skating in New York, and it’s worth considering if you’re visiting Central Park in November. The rink sits in the southern part of the park, surrounded by trees and with Manhattan’s buildings visible beyond them. The 2026–2027 skating season is scheduled to run from 24th October 2026 until 16th March 2027, so it should be open throughout November. You can book a skating session, rent skates if you need them and look into skating lessons if you’re new to the ice. I’d choose this rink if you want to combine skating with a walk around Central Park rather than making it a standalone activity.
Price: Prices start from $16; check whether skate rental is included
Location: Wollman Rink, Central Park, Manhattan
Dates: 24th October 2026 – 16th March 2027
Go Ice Skating at The Rink at Rockefeller Center

The Rink at Rockefeller Center is probably the most iconic place to go ice skating in New York, and November is a good time to plan a visit before the busiest part of December. The rink opens for its 2026–2027 season on 10th October and is celebrating its 90th anniversary this year. You get a 60 minute skating session surrounded by Midtown’s skyscrapers, with the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree arriving nearby on 7th November. The important thing to know is that the tree won’t be lit until the annual lighting ceremony on 2nd December, so don’t expect the fully lit Christmas scene if you’re visiting earlier in November.
Price: General skating from $22 for a 60-minute session; skate rental costs extra
Location: The Rink at Rockefeller Center, entrance on 49th Street between Fifth and Sixth Avenues
Dates: From 10th October 2026

Best Pop-Ups and Festivals in New York This November
Winter Village at Bryant Park

Winter Village at Bryant Park is one of the first places I’d visit if I wanted to get into the Christmas spirit during a November trip. It opens on 28th October 2026, so you don’t have to wait until Thanksgiving to see the festive stalls and skating rink. The market has more than 180 holiday shops selling gifts, decorations, food and drinks, which makes it a good place to browse if you’re looking for Christmas presents or souvenirs. There’s also an ice rink at the centre of the park, with the surrounding skyscrapers making it a recognisable New York winter scene.
Entry to Winter Village is free, so you can visit without committing to spending money on an activity. Skating is a separate cost if you need to rent skates, although admission to the rink is free if you bring your own. I’d allow time to walk around the stalls before deciding whether to buy anything, as food and drinks can add up when you’re visiting several festive spots.
Price: Free entry; ice skating and food or shopping cost extra
Location: Bryant Park, between Fifth and Sixth Avenues, Midtown Manhattan
Dates: 28th October 2026 – 28th February 2027
Santa Claus Winter Wonderland

Santa Claus Winter Wonderland is a festive pop-up at Watermark on Pier 15, with Christmas decorations, photo opportunities and outdoor activities. It’s planned to open on 7th November 2026 and continue into late December, making it an option for anyone visiting New York before Christmas itself. General admission includes access to the outdoor areas, games, activities and photo spots, while the event also offers reserved heated glasshouse and chalet bookings. These dining options include food and give you a place to sit indoors while still being part of the festive experience. Santa photo opportunities are also advertised throughout the week, which may be useful if you’re visiting with children or want a Christmas photo.
Price: Tickets start from $15; heated dining reservations cost more
Location: Watermark at Pier 15, 78 South Street, Lower Manhattan
Dates: From 7th November 2026 until late December

If you love Christmas music, Mariah Carey’s Holiday Bar is one of the festive pop-ups to look out for in New York this November. The experience returns on 19th November 2026 at Moxy Chelsea, with decorations inspired by Mariah Carey and her famous Christmas music. Expect themed photo opportunities, holiday merchandise and festive cocktails, including drinks made with her Black Irish cream liqueur. There are also plans for interactive displays and album-inspired backdrops, so it’s designed to be more than just a bar with Christmas decorations.

Holly Jolly Christmas Bar at Rory’s Rooftop

It is scheduled to run from 12th November to 27th December 2026 at Rory’s Rooftop in Manhattan. The bar is decorated with tinsel, ornaments and seasonal decorations, with festive cocktails and photo opportunities throughout the space. Dates: 12th November – 27th December 2026
Best Free Things to Do in New York This November
See the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree Arrive
The Rockefeller Center Christmas tree is one of New York’s best-known Christmas sights, and you can see it arrive before the official lighting ceremony. In 2026, the tree is scheduled to arrive on 7th November, giving visitors a chance to see it being put in place early in the festive season. It’s important to know that this is the arrival date, not the date the tree will be lit. The official tree lighting ceremony is scheduled for 2nd December 2026, so if you’re visiting in November, you’ll see the tree before its lights are switched on. Even without the lights, it’s an interesting stop if you’re already exploring Rockefeller Center and Midtown.
Price: Free to watch
Location: Rockefeller Plaza, Midtown Manhattan
Date: 7th November 2026 for the tree arrival; lighting ceremony scheduled for 2nd December 2026

Watch the Saks Fifth Avenue Holiday Light Show

The Saks Fifth Avenue holiday light show is another free festive stop to add to a November itinerary. The display is scheduled to return on 23rd November 2026, bringing lights and music to the department store’s Fifth Avenue façade. The store’s holiday windows are also part of the seasonal display, so you can look at them while you’re in the area. It’s easy to combine this with Rockefeller Center, St Patrick’s Cathedral and other Fifth Avenue sights because they’re all within walking distance. I’d visit after dark to see the lights properly, but check the official details before you go as the 2026 showtimes may change.
Price: Free to watch
Location: Saks Fifth Avenue, 611 Fifth Avenue, between East 49th and East 50th Streets
Dates: From 23rd November 2026; check for confirmed showtimes
Watch the New York City Marathon

If you’re arriving in New York at the beginning of November, you could catch part of the New York City Marathon on 1st November 2026. The race takes runners through all five boroughs before finishing in Central Park, with spectators lining the route to cheer them on. You don’t need a ticket to watch from the public viewing areas, so it’s an option if you’re looking for something to do without spending money. The atmosphere varies depending on where you watch, with some sections drawing bigger crowds than others. Fourth Avenue in Brooklyn, Williamsburg, First Avenue in Manhattan and the stretch near Central Park are all places to consider along the route.
Price: Free to watch from public viewing areas
Location: Route through all five boroughs, finishing in Central Park
Date: 1st November 2026
Watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade

The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade takes place on 26th November 2026, and it’s one of the biggest annual events in New York. The parade features enormous character balloons, floats, marching bands and performances as it travels through Manhattan towards Macy’s Herald Square. The event is free to watch from the designated public viewing areas, but you’ll need to plan ahead if you want a good spot. The parade is scheduled to run from 8.30am until noon, and the route begins near West 77th Street and Central Park West before heading south towards Herald Square. It is also the parade’s 100th annual edition in 2026, making this year’s event a milestone celebration.
Price: Free to watch
Location: From Central Park West and West 77th Street to Macy’s Herald Square
Date: 26th November 2026
Time: 8.30am–12pm
Watch the Macy’s Parade Balloons Get Inflated

You don’t have to wait until Thanksgiving morning to see the famous Macy’s Parade balloons. The day before the parade, the giant balloons are inflated on the Upper West Side near the American Museum of Natural History. For 2026, the viewing event is scheduled for 25th November from 12pm to 6pm. It’s free to attend and gives you the chance to see the balloons up close before they’re carried through Manhattan the following morning. I’d consider this if you want to see the parade characters without committing to an early start on Thanksgiving Day.
Price: Free to watch
Location: Upper West Side, near the American Museum of Natural History
Date: 25th November 2026
Time: 12pm–6pm
Final Tips for Visiting New York in November
If you’re visiting New York in November, I’d plan your itinerary around the dates of the events you most want to see. The first week of the month is useful for the marathon and the start of the Christmas season, while Thanksgiving week is especially busy because of the parade and balloon inflation. If you want to go ice skating or see a Christmas show, check prices and availability before you travel, as the cost can vary depending on the day and time. I’d also leave some flexibility in your plans rather than trying to fit every event into one trip.
You don’t need to pay for an activity every day to enjoy New York in November. The Rockefeller Center tree arrival, Saks light show, marathon and Thanksgiving events give you several free options, and free museum admission can help if the weather isn’t great. If you’re visiting around Thanksgiving, book your accommodation early and allow more time to get around Manhattan because crowds and road closures can affect travel. Most importantly, check the official event pages before you go, as schedules, prices and access arrangements can change as November gets closer.
